We’d have to be utterly deranged to let someone else tell us what reality is, and yet we do that as a matter of course. We do it every day – we wouldn’t think of not doing it. There practically isn’t anyone who hasn’t let someone else – some external authority – tell them what reality is. Not to be controlled in this way is unheard of, it’s practically a crime. Not subscribing to the collective Reality Tunnel is ‘definitely breaking the rules’ as far as society goes, necessarily so since we can’t get to be a member of society unless we accept everyone else’s picture of reality. That’s the basic thing we have to do, that is ‘key agreement’ that is required of us…
Psychologically speaking, this isn’t good. Someone else’s truth is always a lie. This is an aberration that has been normalised – it’s an out-and-out perversity that has become orthodox, an abomination that has somehow become ‘the right and proper way to do things’. What’s ‘RIGHT’ is to let others define reality for us, what’s ‘responsible’ is to let the system tell us what’s real and what’s not real, what’s important and what ought to be dismissed as unimportant or worthless (the ‘system’ being comprised of those people of who have previously allowed their reality to be to be thus defined). The prime example of this is – of course – what we might call ‘compulsorily-enforced religion’. Compulsory religion (which is where everyone is compelled to accept the very same literal explanation of what life is all about) is the Great Perversity that has somehow been normalised, the Great Aberration that has somehow been made unremarkable.
From the moment we’re able to understand what people are telling us (from what used to be called ‘the age of reason’) we are instructed as to ‘what it’s all about’, and this instruction is forced upon us in no uncertain times. The thing about dogmatic religion is of course that it does a ‘total job’ on us – it exhaustively defines everything. Dogmatic religion defines every single aspect of our situation, especially including such imponderables as ‘Where the universe comes from’ or ‘Why was there something instead of nothing?’ or ‘What is the meaning of our existence?’ or ‘What should we do in life?’ Nothing is left open – absolutely nothing – and yet at the same time we are led to believe that we are being done a big fat favour. Our souls are being ‘saved’ – abuse is reframed as help; violence is presented as benevolent intervention. This makes it even harder to question the authority – we can’t question the world that has been defined for us because we have no other. We have nothing else to go on.
‘But why is this abuse?’ we might query. ‘Isn’t that a little strong?’ The problem here being of course that the abuse has been normalised! Abuse isn’t too strong a word for what we’re talking about, not when we consider that what we’re being robbed of is our lives. From a psychological (rather than a physiological point of view) we can’t be said to have a life (or to be truly living) unless we can do it in our own, unique and ‘unforced’ way. No one can do this for us, no one can influence us in this regard, and the idea that they can (or should) do is deeply perverse. We have been compelled to accept the degraded analogue which is the artificial life in place of anything authentic. The message that we are given is that unless we are echoing something else (a set of mechanical values that has been arbitrarily imposed upon us) then this isn’t life. We’re not ‘doing it right’. Generic living is not living however – it’s just battery farming for humans. It’s abuse…
To say that we’re ‘living life in our own way’ – whatever that might entail – doesn’t mean that we know what we’re doing, or that we have to have any insight that others might not, it just means that we’re making our own mistakes and not someone else’s, and this is a very big difference indeed. When we make our own mistakes then there is always a chance we might learn! When we make the System’s mistakes – however – then there is zero chance of learning (and also therefore zero chance of growing). That’s just not going to happen – it’s not going to happen because we aren’t allowed to see the errors in the System as errors, or to see the contractions within it as ‘self-contradictions’. We are required to ‘believe’ (no matter what) and that is the beginning and the end of it. Blind, heedless belief is the ‘virtue’ that is demanded of us (which is another way of saying that obedience is the ‘virtue’ that is required of us). If things go wrong, if it doesn’t work out according to plan, then it must be our fault. The definition of ‘what’s right’ is ‘what the system says what is true’ (this being how systems work) – rules are rules, at the end of the day. Rules are final and so the unruly individual can’t ever be right.
The only way the individual can be ‘right’ is if they follow everyone else, is if they make sure to obey the rules across the board. The thing about this however is that if an individual does the same as everyone else then that’s no longer what they are. If I am ‘a free agent who always follows the rules’ then I might be ‘right’ as far as the System is concerned (which means that I am bound to stay as I am, which means that change always equals ‘getting it wrong’) then I’m no longer a free agent. This societal validation is only skin deep though – we are only ‘nominally right’ and whatever is nominal is fickle. It could be one thing one moment, and then quite another the next. The goal posts are movable, but no matter what the goals are it’s still just ‘the system’. It’s all ‘just the system’, and the system is a scam. When anything can be true (depending upon what is convenient at the time) then nothing is true. Our ‘raison d’etre’ is located on the outside of us and so whoever it is that gets to put the External Authority in place controls us totally. Whoever sets the values controls us and we have to perform our generic mechanical dance accordingly, and having our volition (our ‘raison d’etre’) coming from outside of us in this way is the very antithesis of mental health. To lead the Regulated Life is an avoidance of life (not the ‘celebration’ of it) and the avoidance of life isn’t ‘healthy’ – not by a long chalk!
It’s not just our volition, not just our day-to-day motivation that is supplied extrinsically, that is supplied from the outside, it is Everything – it is ‘the Full Package’. The Extrinsic (Inviolate) Order tells us who we are and what our lives are all about (it tells us what’s important and what isn’t) and this is the ultimate form of abuse – it’s the ultimate form of abuse because our lives – the lives we would have led had we been left free to do so – has been taken away from us without us knowing it and has been replaced with an empty generic game, a game that is ‘the exact same for all of us’. Whatever moves we make in this game are equally meaningless outside of this game. The game is null, the game is ‘empty of any meaning at all’ – the only meaning it has is extrinsic in nature and ‘extrinsic’ means it has nothing to do with us, nothing to do with what is real. Extrinsic Order is self-referential order and ‘self-referential order’ is another way of talking about the Nullity. Self-Referential Order is an hallucination.
The Extrinsic Reality is a closed system, the Game (or the Simulation) is a closed system, and yet what is supposedly being represented is ‘the Open Situation’. The System itself is ‘the error’ therefore – it’s an error we can’t see to be an error, an error that we are simply not allowed to see as such. It’s a lie we are compelled to believe in. To itself the System isn’t an error of course but ‘the unquestionable truth’, but no matter what it says, no matter how it sees itself, the System is the error. The System – because it is its nature to do so – sees everything in its own inverted terms, which means that it necessarily sees Reality as being ‘the error’, as being ‘what needs to be corrected’. The reason we can say that the system is an error is because the only reason it’s there is to ‘represent reality’. Reality however is an Open Situation, as we have said, whilst the System (because it is based on logic) is fundamentally Closed, and so to say that’s the latter can represent the former is entirely false, entirely erroneous – it couldn’t be more erroneous.
The Simulation only has value or meaning because of what it simulates – that’s where it gets its KUDOS, its LEGITIMACY. its RESPECTABILITY from. Because the System DOESN’T represent reality however (because CLOSED does NOT in any way represent OPEN) it must therefore be the case that the Simulation is an error. We aren’t allowed to see this however, as we keep on saying – the Simulation functions by ‘inverting the truth’ and it therefore presents itself in this inverted way (which is to say, it presents itself as being ‘true’). In the Mind-Created Virtual Reality it is therefore true to say – paraphrasing Philip K Dick – that ‘we will be required to do wrong wherever we go’. We are as alienated from the Natural World (and from our true nature) as much as we ever possibly could be and this is why the process by which this alienation (this ‘systematic perversion of what is natural and wholesome’) takes place can be characterised as abuse.
